Born on the western coast in Savanna-la-mar, Jamaica on February 9, 1992, the only sport the 27 year-old NFL star knew was soccer, which he played barefooted with other kids in the neighborhood. Leaving his father behind, he migrated to the United States in 2003 at age 11 with his mother, Audrey Wilson and three siblings- Guhvane,Chelsea and Jehmaul- to Chicago, Illinois thanks to his maternal grandparents who immigrated from Jamaica to the United States in the 1980s to help pave the way for greater opportunities for his family.

BROWARD COUNTY, Florida — On November 19, 2019, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners unanimously elected Jamaican-American Dale VC Holness mayor of Broward County in Florida. Holness, the first Jamaican-American to serve as mayor, has served for the past year as vice mayor. Former State Senator and House Representative Steve Geller was also unanimously chosen by the commission as the new vice mayor of the County. Maryland-based David 'Wagga' Hunt Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships to 19 Jamaican students of Kingston College (KC) and Calabar High.
The Prime Minister’s National Youth Awards for Excellence 2019 is open to all Jamaican nationals between 15-29 years old, who are living in Jamaica and the Diaspora, and who have attained excellence and world class achievement. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Be a Jamaican national (including those living overseas) and be born between January 1, 1988 and December 31, 2002. Nominators are required to complete this Nomination Form no later than October 4, 2019. The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) is aiming to engage the Jamaican diaspora in Atlanta, Georgia, with its Access Jamaica Expo, from October 25 to 26. The event, which is being held in collaboration with the Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Dr. Elaine Bryan, will facilitate members of the diaspora accessing services from public- and private-sector organisations.
