Picture

U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee

In 2004, Congresswoman Barbara Lee introduced a legislative bill for a National Caribbean American Heritage Month in order to recognize the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. After passing in both the House and Senate, an official proclamation was signed by President George W. Bush on June 5, 2006 declaring the month of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month.
